Movement should feel like coming home — grounded in your body, free in your expression, alive in your groove.

Grounded Groove was born from a simple belief: that Pilates doesn't have to be quiet and controlled to be transformative. By weaving somatic awareness with the irresistible energy of disco, funk and groove, we've created a practice that honours the body's intelligence while celebrating its joy. This is Pilates with a pulse.

Polly — founder of Grounded Groove

Polly

With years of experience as a Pilates instructor and a lifelong love for dance, Polly created Grounded Groove to bridge two worlds: the somatic depth of mindful movement and the uninhibited joy of the dance floor.

Teaching across Melbourne's most loved studios, Polly brings a warmth and realness to every class. Her approach is intuitive — guided by what the body needs, not what the ego demands. Whether you're building strength from the ground up or losing yourself in a groove, every session is an invitation to reconnect.

Three ways to groove

Every body moves differently. Every day asks for something different. Grounded Groove offers three distinct practices — each rooted in somatic awareness, each with its own rhythm.

Deep Groove
01

Deep Groove

Strength · Sculpt · Foundation

Built from the ground up. Deep Groove is where somatic awareness meets serious strength work — slow, intentional, and deeply challenging. Think heavy bass lines: steady, grounding, and impossible to ignore. Every rep is a conversation with your body, building resilience through connection rather than force.

  • Controlled Tempo
  • Deep Muscle Activation

Golden Groove
02

Golden Groove

Rhythm · Flow · Expression

This is where the disco ball drops. Golden Groove fuses somatic Pilates with free-flowing, dance-inspired movement — think fluid transitions, rhythmic sequences, and the kind of joy that makes you forget you're working out. Bring the funk, find the flow, let your body lead.

  • Dance-Infused Flow
  • Rhythmic Sequencing
  • Full-Body Expression
  • Groove Musicality

Slow Groove
03

Slow Groove

Somatic · Restore · Ground

The deepest cut on the album. Slow Groove strips it back to the essence — unhurried, somatic movement that invites you to truly inhabit your body. There's still rhythm here, still groove, but it's quiet and internal. This practice unwinds tension you didn't know you were holding and reconnects you to your most grounded self.

  • Nervous System Regulation
  • Mindful Micro-Movement
  • Restorative Grounding

Not your average
Pilates class

Every Grounded Groove class is an experience. The music matters. The lighting matters. The energy in the room matters. We bring the atmosphere of a night out to the intention of a somatic practice — because transformation doesn't have to feel clinical.

Curated Playlists

Disco, funk, soul and groove — every class has a soundtrack designed to move you from the inside out.

Somatic Intelligence

More than reps and sets. Every movement is guided by body awareness, breath, and the nervous system.

I came for the Pilates and stayed for the groove. There's something about the way Polly teaches — it's like she gives you permission to actually enjoy being in your body. I've never left a class feeling anything less than alive.

Questions before your first groove

New to Pilates or somatic movement? No stress. Here are the things people ask us most before their first class.

I've never done Pilates before — is Grounded Groove right for me?

+
Absolutely. Grounded Groove is built for all levels. Every class offers modifications and progressions, so whether you're a complete beginner or have been practising for years, you'll find your version of each movement. Polly guides with cues that focus on how it feels, not just how it looks — which makes it especially welcoming if you're new.

What is somatic Pilates, and how is it different from regular Pilates?

+
Traditional Pilates focuses on controlled movements for core strength and alignment. Somatic Pilates layers in body awareness — it's about feeling the movement from the inside out, tuning into your nervous system, and moving with intention rather than just repetition. At Grounded Groove, we add rhythm and music to this, creating a practice that's both deeply mindful and genuinely joyful.

Do I need to be flexible or fit to start?

+
Not at all. You come as you are. Pilates and somatic work meet you where your body is today — there's no minimum flexibility or fitness level required. You'll build both over time, but they're not prerequisites. Just bring yourself and an open mind.

What should I wear and bring to my first class?

+
Wear comfortable clothes you can move freely in — think leggings and a fitted top. Pilates is usually done barefoot or in grip socks. Bring a water bottle and arrive 5-10 minutes early so you can settle in. Studios provide mats and equipment, but feel free to bring your own mat if you have one you love.

Which class should I try first — Deep Groove, Golden Groove, or Slow Groove?

+
If you want a gentle entry point with lots of body awareness, start with Slow Groove. If you want to feel challenged and build strength, Deep Groove is your go. If you love music and want something dynamic, Golden Groove will light you up. Honestly, there's no wrong choice — just pick the one that sounds most like you right now.

Is Pilates good for back pain and posture?

+
Yes — Pilates is one of the most recommended movement practices for managing back pain and improving posture. The focus on core stability, spinal mobility, and body alignment directly supports the muscles that keep your back healthy. Somatic Pilates in particular is great because it trains your body to release tension patterns that often contribute to chronic pain.
