Movement should feel like coming home — grounded in your body, free in your expression, alive in your groove.

Grounded Groove was born from a simple belief: that movement doesn't have to be quiet and controlled to be transformative. By weaving somatic awareness with sound, vibration, breath and the irresistible energy of groove, we've created a practice that honours the body's intelligence while celebrating its freedom. This is movement with a pulse — rooted in Pilates foundations but expressed through something far more expansive.

Polly — founder of Grounded Groove

Polly

With a foundation in Pilates, a lifelong love for dance, and a deep understanding of somatic practice, Polly created Grounded Groove to bridge the worlds of body, sound and free movement — where vibration meets breath and strength lives in the mind as much as the muscle.

Teaching across Melbourne's most loved studios, Polly brings a warmth and realness to every class. Her approach is intuitive — guided by what the body needs, not what the ego demands. Whether you're building strength from the ground up, moving freely through sound, or grounding through breath, every session is an invitation to reconnect with yourself.

Three ways to groove

Every body moves differently. Every day asks for something different. Grounded Groove offers three distinct practices — each rooted in somatic awareness, sound and breath, each with its own rhythm and intention.

Deep Groove
01

Deep Groove

Strength · Body · Mind

Built from the ground up — body and mind together. Deep Groove is where somatic awareness meets serious strength work, using vibration, breath and sound to build resilience that goes deeper than muscle. Think heavy bass lines: steady, grounding, impossible to ignore. Every movement is a conversation between your body and your nervous system, building strength from the inside out.

Golden Groove
02

Golden Groove

Free Movement · Sound · Expression

This is where the disco ball drops. Golden Groove is free movement through sound — dance-inspired, somatic, and completely uninhibited. Think fluid transitions, rhythmic sequences driven by vibration, and the kind of full-body expression that reminds you what it feels like to move without rules. Let the sound guide you. Let your body lead.

  • Sound-Driven Sequencing
  • Full-Body Expression
  • Somatic Musicality

Slow Groove
03

Slow Groove

Breath · Vibration · Ground

The deepest cut on the album. Slow Groove strips it back to the essence — unhurried somatic movement guided by breath and vibration, inviting you to truly inhabit your body. There's still rhythm here, still groove, but it's quiet and internal. Sound becomes a tool for nervous system regulation, breath becomes movement, and every vibration helps unwind tension you didn't know you were holding.

Not your average
movement class

Every Grounded Groove session is an experience. The sound matters. The vibration matters. The energy in the room matters. We bring the atmosphere of a night out to the intention of a somatic practice — because transformation doesn't have to feel clinical. It can feel like freedom.

Sound & Vibration

Disco, funk, soul and groove — every class is driven by sound that moves through your body, not just your ears. Music as medicine.

Somatic Intelligence

More than reps and sets. Every movement is guided by body awareness, breath, vibration, and the nervous system. Strength in mind, strength in body.

Free Expression

A space to move without judgement, breathe without apology, and connect with others who believe in the groove.

I came for the movement and stayed for the vibration. There's something about the way Polly teaches — the sound, the breath, the freedom — it's like she gives you permission to actually enjoy being in your body. I've never left a session feeling anything less than alive.

Questions before your first groove

New to somatic movement? Never heard of sound-driven practice? No stress. Here are the things people ask us most before their first session.

I've never done somatic movement before — is Grounded Groove right for me?

+
Absolutely. Grounded Groove is built for all levels and all bodies. If you've done Pilates or yoga before, you'll recognise some foundations — but even if you haven't, every session offers modifications and progressions. Polly guides with cues that focus on how it feels, not just how it looks. Sound, breath and vibration do a lot of the work for you — which makes it especially welcoming if you're new.

What is somatic movement, and how is it different from Pilates?

+
Somatic movement is about feeling from the inside out — tuning into your body's intelligence, your nervous system, and moving with deep intention rather than just repetition. Pilates gives us an incredible foundation of strength and alignment, and we draw on that. But Grounded Groove goes further by weaving in sound, vibration, breath and free expression to create something more expansive — a practice that's both deeply mindful and genuinely joyful.

Do I need to be flexible or fit to start?

+
Not at all. You come as you are. Somatic movement meets you where your body is today — there's no minimum flexibility or fitness level required. You'll build both over time, but they're not prerequisites. Just bring yourself, an open mind, and a willingness to feel the vibration.

What should I wear and bring to my first session?

+
Wear comfortable clothes you can move freely in — think leggings and a fitted top. Sessions are usually done barefoot or in grip socks. Bring a water bottle and arrive 5-10 minutes early so you can settle into the space and the sound. Studios provide mats and equipment, but feel free to bring your own mat if you have one you love.

Which practice should I try first — Deep Groove, Golden Groove, or Slow Groove?

+
If you want a gentle entry point guided by breath and vibration, start with Slow Groove. If you want to build strength in body and mind, Deep Groove is your go. If you love sound, free movement and full-body expression, Golden Groove will light you up. Honestly, there's no wrong choice — just pick the one that sounds most like you right now.

Can somatic movement help with back pain and stress?

+
Yes — somatic movement is one of the most effective approaches for managing back pain, improving posture, and releasing stored stress. The Pilates foundations give you core stability and spinal mobility, while the somatic layer trains your body to release tension patterns that contribute to chronic pain. Sound and vibration work directly with the nervous system to help your body let go of what it's holding.
